An Additive that Transforms Recycled Rubber into High-Performance Materials

VESTENAMER® is a high-performance rubber additive developed by Evonik Industries in Germany. Its main component, trans-polyoctenamer (TOR), features a large cyclic structure that combines thermoplasticity and flexibility. It comes in white pellet form, making it easy to handle and enabling both improved processability and physical properties in rubber products.

Features and Benefits

  • Improved Mixing and Flowability: Stabilizes extrusion and molding processes
  • Enhanced Dimensional Stability and Surface Smoothness: Supports high-precision molding
  • Improved Abrasion Resistance, Resilience, and Compression Strength: Enhances final product performance
  • Shorter Mixing Time and Reduced CO₂ Emissions: Contributes to lower environmental impact
  • White Pellet Form: Easy to handle and simplifies formulation design

Compatibility with GTR (Ground Tire Rubber)

VESTENAMER® demonstrates exceptional performance when blended with GTR (Ground Tire Rubber).

Traditionally, GTR posed challenges in terms of processability and physical properties. However, the addition of VESTENAMER® yields the following benefits:

  • Significant improvement in processability
  • Recovery and enhancement of physical properties (abrasion resistance, resilience, compression strength)
  • Elevates recycled materials from “substitutes” to high-performance materials

Contribution to Sustainability

VESTENAMER® is more than just a plasticizer or compatibilizer—it serves as a core component in formulations that bridge recycled and virgin materials.
As a solution that balances high performance and sustainability, it is gaining attention in emerging fields such as the EV market, lightweight products, and high-precision molded components.

Examples of VESTENAMER® Applications

  • Professional Tennis Balls: Meets international standards even with 50% recycled rubber
  • Industrial Rubber Hoses: Prevents scorching and improves dimensional stability
  • Road Pavement Materials (Used by U.S. Municipalities): Enhances crack resistance and elasticity
