NEWRelease2024.12.05Polyplastics-Evonik Receives Hyogo Prefecture Invention Association President's Award for Polarized Lens Patent
Polyplastics-Evonik Corporation (Headquarters: Shinjuku, Tokyo; Vice President: Kunio Fukui) has received the "Hyogo Prefecture Invention Association President's Award" at the 2024 Kinki Regional Invention Awards (sponsored by the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation) for its composite sheet of polyamide and polarizing film(TROGAMID® CX Polarized Sheet). The Regional Invention Awards recognize outstanding inventions, designs, or ideas created by engineers and researchers, and have a history of over 100 years since their inception in 1921. This year's award ceremony was held on November 28 at Hotel Nikko Nara.
<Overview of the Award-Winning Invention>
Name: Lightweight and Highly Processable Polarized Lenses for Sunglasses (Product Name: TROGAMID® CX Polarized Sheet)
Patent Name: "Functional Optical Lens and Its Manufacturing Method," Patent Number: 4987297
Inventors: Toshihiko Fujinaka, Masakazu Tokunaga
Details:
This technology, primarily designed for sunglasses, eliminates the limitations of combining lens and frame materials, enabling unprecedented lightweight and design possibilities. By using polyamide, which has excellent chemical resistance and impact resistance, as the material for the polarized sheet and lenses, it allows for combinations with various frame materials and direct fine processing on the lenses, which was difficult with conventional plastic lenses. This enables the production of sunglasses with rich design features.
Based on this patent, Polyplastics-Evonik is developing a business around CX films and CX polarized sheets for polarized sunglasses lenses using TROGAMID® myCX, a transparent nylon.
TROGAMID® is a registered trademark of Evonik Industries, and Polyplastics-Evonik Corporation is the distributor in Japan.
